Friday Fun Day

Good afternoon,

Well, it really was Friday Fun Day today. We started with some more target practice maths...


...sang some songs (including a cool rock version of Galoop! I'll try to get it recorded next week...) some more Galoop drawings (check your child's Topic/Theme/Centre of Interest book), and some free time.






After lunch, and assembly, we went out to practice for the triathlon again.


Yay yay, we'll run and play!


Next week will be starting with a Values Assembly, something new we will be doing as a school this year. You are all most warmly welcome. 9:05 to about 9:15.

Thursday Theology

Good afternoon,

It was nice to meet you last night.

Further to our quick discussion about the new standards that the government have brought out, I have left out copies of them for you to look at in the corner by the back door (the parents corner, if you will).

My main concern with them are is that they take away time from teaching to identify what most competent teachers already know - who's struggling, who's doing well etc.

Bottom line, it won't really effect what I do in the room too much. Says he who has yet to be told how we're implementing them here at OLA! :-)

Right, onto the serious business of the day. After our normal literacy and numeracy routines in the morning, we had a bit of R.E. about how God can be seen in creation...

...so we had our first Triathlon practice as a J Team.

Wednesday Wrrrr

It's far too cold to go swimming!

...so we went anyway!



And were joined by Rooms 1 and 3.


It got a little crowded!

We also got our flags died this morning, which I will be hanging this afternoon...perhaps...oh, I've just noticed the pile of marking I need to get done! Opps!

Tuesday's Blessing

Tena Koutou, Ma Te Atua Koe e Manaaki
Hello (to you all), and God Bless You.

This afternoon's R.E. lesson was about blessings, and how we can bless each other when we greet each other with a simple God Bless You, or in Maori Ma Te Atua Koe e Manaaki. It's like asking God to do something special for someone else.

Then we went swimming!




Just a couple of things before I sign off.

• please ensure that the form that went home last night will have been returned back to school by tomorrow morning, we as the J Team are starting to train for the triathlon, so please ensure that your children come to school with their running shoes tomorrow;
  


• the children are all expected to attend tomorrow's Open Air Liturgy here at school at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow;
  


• and don't forget the meet the teacher meetings at both 3:30 and 6:00. (And no, you don't have to come to both! Just pick a time that suits you, it's more a house keeping meeting than anything else...)

Monday Memory Verse

Good afternoon,

Another fun day was here in Room 2. The children even sat at their own desks as a whole class for the first time this year!


They were busy working on their very own Room 2 flag, which we hope to dye later in the week.



After lunch, we had our first R.E. lesson on prayer. To further their understanding of why to pray - because God loves them to pieces and pieces and would like to talk and listen to them - we learnt Isiah 43:4...



...by removing a word and reciting the verse until we knew it without the words.



(Using this tablet PC, I was able to highlight just one word in Windows Journal and move it to the bottom of the page. Ah, the wonders of technology, eh?!)

And then it was off to the pool.
