Wednesday Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This morning started off with this...

...which prompted this...

Then on with some shape games for maths.

Then on to some writing...

...and reading.

This afternoon we watched Where the Wild Things Are (and In the Night Kitchen), before creating some music to fit different parts of the story.

And a good time was had by all.

Tomorrow will be our last P.E. day for the term...actually, today was the last day of our dress uniform for this term. Tomorrow is sports-gear-day, and Friday is of course the mufti day. Please get your mufti money in tomorrow do it doesn't get mixed up with the sausage sizzle money for our Mid Winter Breakfast, also on Friday.

Digital Shape Activities

Good morning,

Here are the activities that I would like you to have a crack at this morning...
And there we go.

Tuesday Play Day

Good afternoon,

After a spot of maths...

...and reading...

...Room 2 welcomed the Newbies with some games...

Suffice it to say, the noise level in the room was...elevated...from time to time. 'Specially after they found the lion at the end of their lion hunt!

Tomorrow afternoon, well, to be honest, looks to be a little noisy too, as we'll be borrowing Miss Shaw's copy of Where the Wild Things Are and making some music to go with the story. And pictures. And a spot of drama too. Arty Wednesday, here we come!

Messy Munchie Monday

Good evening,

Today we kicked off the day much in the same way as we ended - making a mess!

This morning's maths was to make a geometric shape out of wool and glue.

Blue Reading Group didn't so much make a mess, as make a play of this morning's book Catch a Caterpillar.

After the Year 1 Holy Spirit R.E. assessment, we all then settled down for a spot of afternoon tea, just as Jesus might have back when he was a child.

And a good time was had by all!

Thank you to the parents who were able to come along, it was great to see you.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Newsletter for Term 2, Week 11

Good morning,

Here is the newsletter for Term 2, Week 11. Sorry for the delay, I decided to take a little time out yesterday afternoon to work on this...

It's a steam driven electricity generator for my Victorian Sci Fi Zappy Cannon that I'm pulling together.

Friday Finish Day

Good afternoon,

Another productive day was had here in Room 2 today. So much so, that we have got our inquiry questions finally answered, with a little help from Mrs Wyn, who spared us some of her time to help out with one of the groups, and then supervised the children while I tried to find my desk that had been lost under a pile of papers...

Just prior to this, we practiced a little Jump Jam in the room...

...before heading off to Jump Jam!

The children were all handed the following notice as they headed out of the door this afternoon. Children being what they are, may or may not hand over any given notice at any given time, so just in case...

Jesus Meal, Monday, Week 11, Term 2, 2010

Good afternoon.

As a follow up of our Jesus R.E. unit from the beginning of the term (where the Year 1 children learnt that aspects of His life as a child are very similar to aspects of our life today), we would like to invite you to participate in a Jesus meal on Monday the 28th of June at about 2:00 in Room 2. This will be a whole class activity (including the Year 2s). All 25 of us!

To that end, I would like to ask you if you could provide one (or more) of the following to share with the rest of the class...
  • Apples

  • Bread – yeasted (normal) and/or unyeasted (flat)

  • Dates

  • Figs

  • Fish (chocolate or fairy bread!)

  • Grapes

  • Olives

  • Raisins

Water shall suffice in lieu of wine!

Parents and siblings are welcome.

Weather permitting, we will also be going outside to play some of the games that Jesus played too.

Kind regards,

Nick Grant
Room 2

And that was pretty much the day.

Have a nice weekend,

Mr Grant

All Whites Thursday

Good afternoon,

Well, this morning kicked off with a hiss and a roar. Quite literally!

Indeed, we made so much noise that one of the locals had to come out to see what all the fuss was about!

Then straight into some maths, making pictures out of geometric shapes, aka this...

...a little bit of reading...

...and another lunch inside watching Veggie Tales.

Righty ho, onwards and upwards. Tomorrow will be our last opportunity to find some answers to our Inquiry questions - I had initially planned to have next week as well, but, what, with making our new arrivals feel welcome, we no longer have that time up our sleeves. Bother it.

Still, this whole doing-inquiry-with-juniors thing has been a definite learning curve for all concerned, so I may have a better handle on our next inquiry, next term. Maybe.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Another Wet Wednesday

Good afternoon,

Winter, eh? Lovely!

Today was much like any other Wednesday. We did a bit of geometric maths...

...watched some Vege Tales over lunch...

...and had some discussion about how to show the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Please feel free to join us and Hoon Hay School on the footpath outside school in the morning to cheer on the All Whites. Our signs are ready and waiting.

Bye for now,

Mr Grant's Sick!

Good morning Room 2,

I've got me a head cold, and I can't sleep (take note of the time I'm writing this!), so I'm going to take the morning off. I will be in after lunch for R.E. and the rest of the interviews.

CU after lunch,

Almost No Photos Monday

Good afternoon,

Well, another day's been and gone - for the children at least. Some of us have still got interviews up 'till 7:45 tonight!

Well, we started with a Values Assembly this morning, for which I convinced Jo to play in the key of G. Suited me, but was waaayyy too low for the rest of the congregation!

A bit of writing then ensued before some morning tea (at which point I realized that the boys are out of food! Still, they've got enough bits a pieces to tide them over), a bit of reading before some Veggie Tales over lunch.

After lunch we had a very quick R.E. lesson where we discussed acts that show Holy Spirit in our lives...

...and putting them to a song and dance.

I'd like to try to tape it, should we find the time to do it again, but I'm not sure if we can...

Anyway, onwards and upwards.

As for the parent/teacher interviews, what can I say? Your children are lovely to teach!

Friday Inquiry Day

Good afternoon,

Much of today was spent hacking away at the independent inquiry activities while I helped groups one on one.

You would have received your children's portfolios. Hope you like them.

Enjoy the weekend,

Mr Grant
