Today was a bit of blur (aren't they all?). A little bit of this...
...and a little bit of that...
Tomorrow of course, the reports and portfolios are going home (hence the many tired teachers stumbling around the school like zombies...or is that just me?) along with your interview times for next Monday and Tuesday.
And that's about it. Time to stuff some clear files.
Another busy day gone, another one coming tomorrow, it's no wonder that the children are becoming ke ti nge nge.
We did a bit of writing...
...and the other usual stuff, before R.E., where the children were learning to relate the concept of God being three persons and yet one God to the shamrock and the three legged milking stool by, well, pulling together shamrocks and milking stools using the digital R.E. resource that we base our teaching on...
...before learning this poem.
After R.E. we tried our first rotation of the inquiry stations.
Today the Year 2's spent one more than usual block in Room 3...sorry, I got distracted by Rattie trying to pull a piece of newspaper into his bedroom from the bottom of the cage. Perhaps he want's some light reading before bed? Trouble is, it's much bigger than the doorway...all very amusing!
But I digress, the Year 2s went for their R.E. lesson early today (1145) due to Mrs McDowell's observation by one of the visiting Special Character Educational Review Officers (S.C.E.R.O., if you please), and then back again at 1330 while the Year 1s in R2 were observed.
Up until then the day was carrying on fairly routinely. A bit of maths (whe children are all progressing quite nicely. Triangles, practice adding and subtracting to 10 until you can do it without thinking. It'll make stuff like 25 + 15 just that much quicker to work out), writing...
...and some Reading.
We finished the day with a little catchup for their portfolios (the children had to write down their big questions (again), just like they had already done in their Inquiry books).
Right, to try to find my desk. I'm sure it's under all these papers somewhere...
We had a surprisingly laid back day today. Free time reading based activities instead of reading group instruction (I was catching up on a few running records) - so there were no reading books going home from the R2 reading class today.
For R.E. this afternoon, we broached the concept of the Trinity - One God, yet three people.
So to try to illustrate that, we did a bit of a mixing experiment. Three colours into one...
...sorta. (So that's how they make Marmite!)
After completing our handwriting sample, there wasn't a whole lot of time to carry on with inquiry, so I introduced the children to the following activities that I have settled upon for them to carry on with while I work with one group at a time on a rotational basis...
We'll try that later in the week (though time is fast running away on me - got some things to catch up on in regards to portfolios that are due out on Friday).
Speaking of portfolios, thank you for the many that have been returned. Ummm, well, it turns out that all but two do not have the space required to be used again, so, umm, sorry, but I'll be sending them home.
